The Korea Centre is pleased to announce Dr. Kim, Jinwoog as its 2025 Scholar-in-Residence. Dr. Kim, a renowned expert in international relations and security, will contribute his extensive knowledge to the Centre’s research initiatives. We’re also excited to share that Dr. Kim will be visiting MG University for a month in April 2025, fostering collaboration and sharing his expertise with students and faculty.

Dr. Kim, Jinwoog 

Korea Centre, 2025 Scholar-in-Residence

Dr. Kim, Jinwoog is the president of the Korea Research Institute for Military Affairs, Republic of Korea, and brings a wealth of experience from academia, military service, and research. He formerly served as a Visiting Professor of international relations at Kookmin University, Republic of Korea, and as the publisher of the Korea Defense Review for 159 volumes. His distinguished military career includes 12 years with the Republic of Korea Army and 2 years with the US Army. Dr. Kim’s academic credentials include a BA in Russian Language from the Korea Military Academy (1980), complemented by studies at the U.S. DoD Public Affairs School (1986). He furthered his education with an MPhil in Public Administration from Seoul National University (2005) and a PhD in Chinese Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2014). Dr Kim has organised 27 national and 12 international conferences throughout his career and coordinated over 300 research projects contracted with prominent South Korean defense and government organisations.  He has also contributed his expertise as an Honorary Fellow and advisor to various committees, including the ROK National Ombudsman and the Agency for Defense Development. Actively engaged in the broader academic community, Dr. Kim has presented research at international conferences, lectured at institutions such as Cambridge University, and contributed to both domestic and foreign publications, alongside his participation in social-minded activities.
